13 GREEN COAT GALA SHOWCASES CHAMPIONS ON AND OFF THE COURSE Justin Leonard two time Western Amateur champion winner of the 1997 Open Championship and a three time member of the U S Ryder Cup team was the featured guest at the seventh annual Green Coat Gala benefiting the Evans Scholars Foundation More than 350 supporters attended the black tie affair At the Gala Michigan State Evans Scholars Alum Lauren Farhat shared her story of caddying with a prosthetic leg Caddying and the Evans Scholarship have given me a future she said in her remarks Our thanks to event co chairs Tim and Stacey Cavanagh Mick and Karen ORourke Mike and Sharyl Mackey and Bill Rogers CADDIE ACADEMY CONTINUES RECORD GROWTH SUCCESS The Caddie Academy returned for its sixth summer providing 85 high school girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with an opportunity to caddie and eventually to become eligible to earn the Evans Scholarship The girls caddied daily at one of 13 clubs along Chicagos North Shore while living at Woodlands Academy in Lake Forest Illinois Thirty five Academy graduates have been awarded Evans Scholarships since 2012 Building on the tremendous success of the Caddie Academy for girls the WGA launched a similar pilot program for boys in 2017 serving five participants who commuted from the Northwestern Evans Scholarship House to their clubs Lauren Farhat and Justin Leonard
