NATS earliest memory of his father is the two of them listening to Tchaikovskys Violin Concerto on an old record player The passion for music stuck Nat took up the violin at age 3 and today plays in the University of Notre Dame Symphony Orchestra Nat is a sophomore Evans Scholar at Notre Dame where hes majoring in liberal art studies with a minor in economics He hopes to work in finance in Chicago when he graduates but for the time being hes reading Socrates and Plato He also reads a journal with ruminations as profound as any Greek philosophers Nats father died of leukemia when Nat was 9 but before he did he filled a notebook with life lessons and anecdotes for his son Nats mother gave him the journal on his 16th birthday He keeps it by his bedside and reads from it every night In the journal his father wrote passionately about the importance of giving back inspiring Nat to get active in his church volunteer at a food bank and pursue a prestigious cancer research internship in high school My time on Earth is too short to not help people Nat says Such drive makes him a natural leader as president of his Evans Scholars chapter Nat is one of a growing number of young people from New York to earn the Evans Scholarship part of the Programs efforts to reach caddies in new areas across the country Besides its great academics Notre Dame provides students with many networking opportunities Ive met a lot of WGA Directors who come to South Bend during football season he laughs Increasing the Number of Scholars in School to 1000 by 2020 5 G A M E C H A N G E R How did you get involved with the Evans Scholars Foundation My family has been committed to the Program for three generations My grandfather was a caddie and had to drop out of college and go to work after his father died One of the men he caddied for gave him a job and he turned it into a very successful career He appreciated the opportunity caddying created for him and when he learned about the Evans Scholarship he led the effort to open a Scholarship House at the University of Minnesota What made you want to be a WGA Director I learned about the role from my grandfather who was a Director and my dad and my uncle who are Directors I love golf and the WGA and its championships have been a pillar of the game for well over 100 years I have seen the life changing impact an Evans Scholarship can have on young people and their families The organization brings together something I love and something I believe in and its a family tradition I am honored to be a part of it What do you like best about the Program It enables good kids with financial need to earn a debt free college education through hard work as a caddie and student Whats your pitch for supporting the Evans Scholars Foundation Plain and simple If you value education and hard work you will like investing in this transformational program Amy Lincoln is a WGA Director from Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest Illinois and a longtime supporter of the Evans Scholars Foundation Q A Supporting the Drive to 1000 Scholars in School with WGA Director Amy Lincoln
